Sony has confirmed both an October 13th release date and expectations of supply problems for its PlayStation VR headset, and now its going to try and drum up popular interest by putting demo units in retail stores this month.
This ensures the PlayStation VR headset will be more readily accessible to the public than either the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, which both technically launched months ago but remain difficult to access without paying for a headset and waiting for it to ship. Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches
A seemingly small number of Oculus Rift demo units have been provided to Best Buy, and GameStop chief Paul Raines did tell Fortune last year that the company was trying to cut deals with the major VR headset manufacturers to offer in-store demos — but such demo opportunities, if they exist, are yet rarely reported.
By putting PSVR headsets in select Best Buy and GameStop locations this month across the U.S. and Canada, four months ahead of the headset's release, Sony seems to be doing yeoman's work in demonstrating and evangelizing VR to the public.
